FIVE RECENT GRADUATES COMPLETE LIST OF COUNTY STUDENTS RECEIVING NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Five recent Anne Arundel County Public Schools graduates have been named National Merit Scholars, bringing the total number of scholarships awarded to county public school students through the national program in the 2012-2013 school year to 11.

The following students will receive college-sponsored awards which range between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study:

  • Sarah Baker of Annapolis High School, who will study applied mathematics at Claremont McKenna College (California).
  • Cailin Oakes of Annapolis High School, who will study earth science at the University of Minnesota.
  • Evan Uthus of Broadneck High School, who will study anthropology at the University of Maryland.
  • Amelia Hallworth of South River High School, who will study epidemiology at the University of Maryland.
  • Xuefei Nou of Old Mill High School, who will study bioengineering at the University of Maryland.

In all, 190 colleges and universities subsidized nearly 4,300 awards nationwide this year.
