The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will discuss and vote on educational specifications for seven school projects and adopt its 2013 Educational Facilities Master Plan at its next meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.
Educational specifications outline space usage of a school or space within a school, including that which may be allocated for community usage. The Board will examine and vote on educational specifications for the following projects:
- Open Space Enclosures at Magothy River Middle School and Meade High School
- Kindergarten Additions at Jones, Nantucket, and Seven Oaks elementary schools
- Gymnasium Additions at North Glen and Oakwood elementary schools
Construction on those projects is scheduled to begin next summer.
The Educational Facilities Master Plan is required by the State of Maryland to be adopted by the Board annually. It includes goals, standards, and guidelines for school system facilities; an inventory of existing facilities; population and enrollment data; and facility utilization figures, among other items.
The Board will receive a briefing on the status of the county’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget and any actions taken by the County Council that impact school system funding. The Council is scheduled to adopt its budget on June 4, 2013, with the Board set to adopt its final budget on June 19, 2013.
The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The
general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m.
