BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES FISCAL YEAR 2018 NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT WITH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County tonight unanimously approved a one-year agreement with the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) that includes a step increase for all eligible teachers, school counselors, and other TAAAC members across the school system, and 1 percent cost-of-living adjustment for the most experienced TAAAC members who are not eligible for step increases.

The agreement, which expires on June 30, 2017, was approved by TAAAC members on May 3. It also changes employee contributions to health-care plans on a gradual scale from the current 7 percent or 10 percent contribution (depending on the plan) to a 12 percent or 15 percent contribution by 2020.

“The fact that we have an agreement with our largest employee bargaining unit prior to the start of the new fiscal year is great news,” Board President Stacy Korbelak said. “More importantly, it is evidence of the collaboration that will continue to be necessary as we move forward.”

The agreement also includes a “catch up” step for eligible Unit I employees who were employed in Unit I during the 2008-09 school year and who remain employed in Unit I into the 2017-18 school year.

The Board has reached tentative agrements with the Association of Educational Leaders, whose members include principals and assistant principals; and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 1693, whose membership includes facilities and maintenance personnel. Those agreements will be voted on by the Board once they are ratified by the bargaining units.

The Board has yet to reach a tentative agreement with the Secretaries and Administrative Assistants Association of Anne Arundel County.
