The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will hear about the impact of County Executive Steve Schuh’s proposed Fiscal Year 2017 Operating and Capital budgets on the school system at its next meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.
The County Executive is scheduled to deliver his budget address to the County Council at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 2. The County Council will then hold workshops and public hearings on the proposal before it adopts an operating budget that allocates funding within state-established categories in June and a capital budget that prescribes funding for school construction projects. In the operating budget, the Board may shift funding within categories before it approves a final school system budget no later than June 30.
Also at the meeting, the Board will hear about revisions being made by Superintendent George Arlotto to the grading regulation. Those changes impact the portion of the regulation allowing students to receive reteaching and be reassessed on certain assignments for which they wish to improve their grades.
The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis. The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 10:00 a.m.
A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.
